A long journey for a large reptile

Monday, 05 November 2012 00:00

Tyrone is used to surprising crowds at events and attractions in the UK, and his cousin Rex is the star attraction at a theme park in Brazil, so they're seasoned travellers. Last month Tyrone was invited to appear at the Abu Dhabi Science Festival, where he managed to cause enjoyment and a certain amount of mayhem amongst the visitors! See the footage below of him at the venue - it's hard to be graceful when you're that large!

Tyrone the time traveller

Thursday, 04 October 2012 00:00

As if travelling the globe to make live appearances weren't enough, a few weeks ago Tyrone surpassed any previous journeys he'd made by dabbling in time travel!

He appeared in the second episode of the last series of Doctor Who, along with some of his pre-historic friends in the aptly name Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. The images below show Tyrone and a Triceratops also built by Millennium FX on-set.

Tyrone's a roaring success in Aberdeen

Friday, 14 September 2012 00:00

Tens of thousands of visitors descended on Aberdeen last week to take part in one of Europe’s largest and most high-profile public science events. Organised by the British Science Association, the University of Aberdeen and Techfest-Setpoint, the British Science Festival featured more than 250 events, including famous names such the physicist Professor Brian Cox and author Bill Bryson.

Amongst this busy schedule the largest of our own famous names, Tyrone the T-Rex made an appearance to promote John Hutchingson’s award-winning lecture on ‘The Surprising Secrets of Large Land Animals’. He set the scene in his own inimitable style and attracted plenty of interest amongst the younger visitors to the Festival (below).

The event moves to a different location every year. In previous years it has taken place in York, Liverpool, Guildford, Birmingham and in 2013 it'll be visiting Newcastle upon Tyne.

Tyrone takes Dakota along to Alnwick

Tuesday, 31 July 2012 00:00

Tyrone loves going to Northumberland to visit the beautiful Alnwick Garden. He particularly likes the mysterious 'Poison Garden' (below left) with its deadly foliage and the the enchanting 'Tree House' (below middle) which is one of the largest in the world.

When he was invited to make an appearance these earlier this month, he took Dakota with him to show her around. Whilst the crowds wanted to stroke and pet the gentle Triceratops as she sauntered about (below right), Tyrone's presence on the other hand seemed to incite the children to scream as loudly as they could (video evidence below) - so he left feeling rather pleased with himself!

HP5 & 1PW create a stir at 'Robots Live' for the second year running

Monday, 18 June 2012 00:00

Our two giant (but friendly) robots HP5 and 1PW were thrilled to be asked back to the National Museum of Flight in East Fortune, Scotland for the second year running yesterday.

They met the crowds at an event called 'Robots Live', where participants enjoyed interacting with scientists, cheering on clashing titans and discovering facts about technology in workshops.

Although our big boys are always charming, the very fact that they're so large can sometimes be a little scary and the younger members of the crowds certainly enjoyed the thrill of meeting them in the 'flesh'!

Tyrone leads the Easter Egg Hunt at Alnwick

Monday, 30 April 2012 13:06

The Alnwick Garden in Northumbria invited Tyrone to come and add a Jurassic twist to their Easter Egg Hunt earlier this month. Amidst the Poison Gardens and Bamboo Labyrinth, Tyrone terrified young and old alike while they searched for dino eggs in the beautiful surroundings.

He hadn't long retured to Millennium Live's dino fortress when he was invited back again to terrorise the Garden's visitors this summer, so look out for him there in June and July.

See him arriving for the Easter Egg Hunt below....

Albert's Proudest Moment

Monday, 30 April 2012 12:54

The most iconic job for any acting gorilla to land is that of the starring role in a Cadbury commercial.

Albert was delighted to be offered exctatly that at the end of last year, and flew to Malaysia with his keepers to film it with production company Ogilvy & Mather from Pakistan.

He was less enamoured to discover the part involved wearing an apron, but was grateful for the oportunity to do his best screen roar, here it is for posterity.....

Otto and Albert share the spotlight

Wednesday, 30 November 2011 22:12

Otto and Albert have never had it so good.....as if being asked to star alongside each other in a commercial for the National Lottery wasn't enough to make them smile, when they arrived at the shoot they found themselves being directed to relax and enjoy massages and luxuriate in jacuzzis with glamorous women - nice work if you can get it.

Watch below to see what a tough time they had on this job!

Albert gets the call every Gorilla hopes for....

Wednesday, 30 November 2011 21:30

There's one sure way for a Gorilla to know when he's made it as an actor, and that's to be given the honour of starring in a Cadbury commercial! Albert has just done exactly that for Cadbury in Pakistan, and has recently returned from filming it in Malaysia. Although it won't be shown in the UK, the power of the internet will hopefully allow us to see his performance when the commercial airs in Asia and we'll post a link here if it does.

Albert and Tyrone spend an amazing day with blind and partially sighted children

Monday, 17 October 2011 11:49

Albert and Tyrone had one of the best days of their lives (and in Tyrone's case that's a lot of days) last Friday, when they went with their keepers to visit the blind and partially sighted kids at New College, Worcester.

The students were able to touch and feel the creatures to gain a sensory understanding of what they look like, and their reactions were a delight. Albert and Tyrone made some very special friends there, and made ITV Central West News whilst doing it - click here to see the clip, and here is some wonderful video of the day, taken by the Millennium Live! keepers:
